Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes MP and Wollongong Lord Mayor Tania Brown are encouraging the community to roll up their sleeves and support the Keiraville Branch of the Country Women’s Association’s (CWA) Community Planting Day in Bellambi this week.
Ms Byrnes and Cr Brown today visited Bellambi Lagoon, along with Councillors Richard Martin and Dan Hayes, to plant a tree and hear about the CWA’s plans for the day, which will include pre-dug holes to ensure the tree planting is relaxed and accessible for all ages and abilities.
“The CWA do incredible work in our community, providing a safe and welcoming space for women and their families to give back to our region,” Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes said.
“The Community Planting Day is a wonderful opportunity for local people to come together, nurture our environment and help protect important local habitat for our native wildlife.”
Ms Byrnes and Cr Brown also extended their heartfelt thanks to Marion Cook, Louise Harry and all the hard-working members of the Keiraville CWA for organising this event and for their incredible work supporting the Illawarra.
The CWA has partnered with Wollongong City Council for the event, with council staff providing 100 plants and the equipment on the day.
“We’re really encouraging everyone to come have a fun day in nature, plant a tree, go for a stroll along the coast and enjoy a chat with our amazing CWA,” Cr Brown said.
The Community Planting Day will take place on Thursday 16 April from 10am-12pm, 200m north of Bellambi Surf Life Saving Club. The Keiraville CWA is also inviting people to bring along any stories, photographs, or memories of Bellambi to share on the day.
