Schools across the Illawarra and Southern Highlands can now apply for grants of up to $25,000 to create better-equipped learning environments and support students after disruptions caused by COVID-19.
Stephen Jones, Member for Whitlam said both government and non-government schools can apply for funding towards small-scale projects as part of the Australian Government’s Schools Upgrade Fund.
“The announcement of this fund is welcome news for the Illawarra and Southern Highlands. We recognise the challenges not only students have faced but also the pressure the industry is facing as teachers adapt,”
“This government’s Schools Upgrade Fund is a show of commitment to teachers, students and fostering supportive schooling environments,” said Mr Jones.
Alison Byrnes, Member for Cunningham added “The Albanese Labor Government has been working hard to deliver our election commitments, and this new funding will further deliver on our promise to support local schools.”
“I know that it has been a tough couple of years for local schools, students and parents. I am proud that we will be able to provide them with this additional support going forward.”
Eligible schools can receive financial support to upgrade air ventilation, build or improve outdoor learning spaces, purchase tablets and laptops, and refurbish classrooms.
Minister for Education Jason Clare said educational infrastructure helps support better student outcomes, including attendance, attainment and behaviour.
“COVID-19 highlighted the importance of air quality and ventilation in our schools, as well as the benefits of outdoor learning spaces and the need to provide equitable access to flexible learning for students,” Minister Clare said.
“The Albanese Government has committed $32 million to this first round of grants”
