I welcome the Prime Minister’s remarks this morning regarding his positive engagement with President Trump regarding Australian steel and aluminium.

It is absolutely clear that both governments are committed to working constructively together to advance sovereign interests, drive economic prosperity and face shared challenges.

These discussions are a continued reminder of the importance of respectful and diplomatic dialogue between our international neighbours, and I acknowledge the Prime Minister’s continued positive engagement across the international community.

When we talk international trade and tariffs – we’re actually talking about Australian jobs, including right here in the Illawarra.

That will always be my priority and the focus of the Albanese Government.

The Prime Minister and the Albanese Government will continue to discuss the tariffs exemption with President Trump and other US officials. Given the sensitive nature of these discussions and their great importance in our region, I will not be providing running commentary on this matter.
